Permanent Residence

Drawing: "Permanent Residence" - Nicole Nolte

What is love and how can we explain it? Hearts (❤) are merely romanticised symbols representing the idea of love as they have basically nothing to do with this powerful feeling and are fairly abstract symbols. This beautiful feeling (love) is rather indescribable if you think about it. Everybody will experience, express and explain it in a different way.

When we've been hurt and we feel as if we can never love again, we say our heart has been broken and although our feelings aren't directly associated with our hearts, if you've been hurt badly enough you can actually feel that emotional pain in a physical sense. When you're crying your eyes out at night - feeling completely and hopelessly alone - your chest feels tight, as if your heart is going into lockdown to protect itself. You begin to feel your pain, rather than only experiencing it.

It's this particular kind of pain that leads me to  believe our hearts have some form of connection to us feeling love. Though it may be  our brains that do the thinking for us, our hearts often decide to take over our thought processes. We feel too much at once and before our brain has the chance to analyse our situation, we've already made a decision based on what our heart has said. Sometimes it doesn't work out, but personally, I think it's beautiful to think with your heart rather than with your brain.

Our brains consider outside information. Our brains are polluted by society, negative past experiences and the opinions of the people around us. Our hearts are pure and unpolluted because all they know is love. "I think therefore I am" is such intelligence in such few words, yet in this day and age our circumstances require for us to change it. Now is the time to be using "I love therefore I am". We can augment reality to the degree that anything you see, hear, do, feel and think can be manipulated.

The only true thing left to do is love, the only thing we can truly trust within ourselves to be real. Yes, our hearts can sometimes get us into trouble, sometimes we will make "mistakes", but are they even mistakes if we followed our hearts to get into that situation?  At the time of our decision, by following our hearts, we were doing exactly what would make us happy; exactly what we needed at that time. Our hearts' only flaw is they don't know how to forget. Once you let somebody in, they have permanent residence and eviction isn't as easy as we'd like it to be. Love is what happens when the heart remembers to touch light leaking from the soul.

  12. This emotion you speak of, I felt it when reading this. It is indescribable, and I liken it to melting, when one resigns oneself to an emotion we have no control or true understanding of. You, young lady, are the epitomy of the worthiness of love. Thank you, for being.
